KUALA LUMPUR: MIC Youth has called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the death of A. Kugan.
Youth chief T. Mohan, in making the call, also expressed his shock over the acquittal of police constable V. Navindran.
"I saw the injuries firsthand at the Serdang Hospital mortuary.
"Blood was oozing from his mouth when his body was turned over for inspection. There were various injuries, cuts and bruises all over his body," Mohan said in a statement yesterday.
He added that although Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said there were 11 suspects, no one was held responsible for the death now.
"This means the murderer roams freely today," he said.
Mohan also called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to set up the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission to prevent more custodial deaths.
MIC information chief S. Murugessan said there had been an alarming number of cases of custodial deaths and the acquittal of Navindran showed that there was no proper mechanism to monitor and bring to book those responsible for these deaths.
Murugessan also called on the prime minister to set up an independent body with full powers to receive complaints, investigate, publish reports and prosecute those responsible for custodial deaths.
